Medieval settings and large landscapes
Mortal Royale allows you to fight in medieval towns and cities, and there are large expanses of grass, forests and seaside areas. The aim is to destroy other players, and part of the fun is that you are able to run and survive if you wish. Unlike FPS games where you may be sniped from a distance, you have to get close in order to kill people in this game. A few stray arrows will not kill you, which means you can run if you wish to survive for longer. The graphics are not so great. The promotional stills look nice, but you will notice the copy-and-pasted scenery as move through each map. The haze in the distance is a nice effect, but it often makes the screen look more like an empty landscape from an indie game.
Oddly satisfying, but has been done better
Mortal Royale is overall a good game because hackers and kitted-out players cannot dominate because you can always run away. However, the mounted fighting and open-world fighting thing has been done better by Mount & Blade Warband, and WOW holds all the cards when it comes to medieval fighting with spells. However, the fact that other games do it better doesn't denigrate the fact that this game has an odd charm, and it is free to play, so it is hard to complain.
